Remember when you were a kid and went to your first candy store, well that's how I would describe my first trip to the 2010 V-Twin Expo in Cincinnati. It was a treat for me to meet some of the coolest people in the motorcycling industry and to see the latest and best products being made today for the V-Twin market.

It was amazing to watch the Perewitz crew working at the show. Kory with his latest creation, a cool looking custom Hyabusa, walking the floors with Jeff as he met with all of the vendors and manufacturers, and Dave being stopped every 10 feet for pictures and autographs.

I want to say thank you to the Perewitz crew for the invite and making me feel like a kid again, and a special thank you to the guys at PPG and Kicker Audio for taking such good care of us.

Goose's complete bike!

This bike is currently residing in our showroom because much like New England, Canada is very cold and snowy! Maybe you remeber but a couple months back I posted a snapshot of this paint job. Well here it is complete! Such a cool looking bike.

And Goose is going to ride this tough Dyna home as soon as the weather turns. In the mean time it is sure to get a lot of looks and good comments! I have already heard a bunch.

What to write about...

Over the past 2 weeks I have been busy organizing and getting stuff done that I have been putting off for a while, that I lost track of the blog... I was thinking about it today and I was sad that I haven't made time for this blog. This is the stuff that I like to do, write about things around here, capture it on film and give our followers an inside look. So my apologies to all our faithful readers! Don't worry though I am back!!!

I went downstairs a few days ago and though "ah there really isn't much to write about..."

FALSE.

Last night Dirti and Kory helped me get my panhead running and it made me think. We actually have a lot going on downstairs that you are unaware of! Like I am embarrassed to say that I haven't ridden my Panhead in over 2 years!! Kory and I were going back to the last time I rode it and I can't believe how fast time goes by. It was nice to hear it run. It only took me 4 kicks to get it going despite Dirti's bet of SEVERAL kicks. She fired up but didn't stay running until a few more kicks and her kicking me good, she finally ran strong! So my Firebolt is going on the back burner and I am determined to put some miles on the 63! You may even get a post about Dirti taking her to the Tumbleweeds ride on Sunday!

Indian gone to Sturgis

The Indian left Thursday with Kory to make it's maiden trip to Sturgis, South Dakota. I, after some harassment from Dirti, took the bike for ride. OK so he really didn't have to pull my leg, just had to say the right thing. This bike is absolutely my favorite bike the shop has ever built. It is so comfortable to ride and handles so easy! and it is wicked cool to top it off. I was thinking about just heading west and not coming back to PCF!

I wish I was going to Sturgis to ride it all week but unfortunately it won't be me.

Thug Day 3 Continued

Day 3, again
I made it to Spearfishsafe and sound. Just under 1800 miles total. The bike ran great and there were no other problems.
But thats not the real story.
What are the chancesone in a zillion?
Let me explain with a joke: The company was hurting for revenue so the sales manager assembled the sales team to announce a big increase in sales for the next quarter. The manager said Team, and we are a teamtogether we can reach this goal. There were groans and gasps in the room because the goal was about impossible.
One salesperson spoke up. I cant do it. I am tapped out. I dont think anyone else can do it either. I think the goal is ridiculous."
The sales manager listened, then said Our team can do it. All I hear from you is I cant do it Im tapped out I, I, I. You know, there is no I in TEAM.
To which the salesperson said, Youre right, and your sales goal? There no F in WAY.
Which is what Kory said when I bumped into Him and Joe Pro in a gas station/restaurant in tiny Kimball, SD today.
We left for Sturgis from different cities, on different days, and took different routes. Butit happened! Face to Face!
Then, it kinda happened again. We left together, but Kory was traveling a bit faster than I wasmy bike has a nasty vibration at 4500 rpm, so I have to either keep it under or over those revs. That translates to speeds there were either too slow or too fast for Korys pace. I opted for slower, knowing that Id have to stop for fuel anyway. Then the winds and rain came, so I pulled over and got all my gear on. And I stopped to offer help to a rider broken down. Sonot a half mile from the Spearfish exit and 270 miles later, I caught up to Kory. Amazing!
Todays other story was the weather. The day started off great. Crisp, clean air and sun. The temperature got up to 86 with just a few clouds in the sky. But a wicked cold front came through, dropping the temperature down to 62 in just a few minutes and blowing riders all over the interstate. I was leaned over for about 3 hours and it was Hell passing big rigs.
I dont think I packed anything but t-shirts, so I may have to buy a hoodie tomorrow.
The scenery was much nicer than yesterday and I opted to pass by the Corn Palace (the only one in the world) and Walls Drugstore (also the only one in the world) as I really wanted to get to Spearfish.
Im beat from the wind. And tomorrow, Ill be back riding a V-Twin.

Thug: Day 3

Day 3: July 31
Are we there, yet?
I made it to Sioux City. Actually, I nudged across the state line so I am officially in South Dakota. 14 hours and 850 miles of land so flat that I could see the curvature of the earth.
I really didnt ride that hard, and didnt get up early, but almost made 1000 miles in 24 hours, as in the Iron Butt Saddle Sore 1000 qualifier (ride 1000 miles in 24 hours). I was just a few minutes over 24 hours.

Super-slabs all the way. That is not the way to subscribe to the its not the destinationits the journey approach to riding. Someday, Ill take the time to get to Sturgis without touching an interstate, but that will have to wait. For now, I just need to get there.

Nevertheless, two wheels are better than all the other choices. I spent the first few hours waiting for things to warm up, which it didnt. Finally, in Illinois, it got about 70. Just over the Iowa border, the rains cameshort, but drenching. I didnt switch to my rain gear instead adopting the Caribbean mantra that its just a cooling shower. After the rainit got clear and the winds came.
Lots of northwest winds. Blew me sideways a few times. They even dislodged my Perewitz half-helmet from under my bungee-mesh thingy attached to my topcase and left it somewhere amongst the cornfields. Likewise a pair of reading glasses out of my jacket pocket.

The winds were spinning a new array of ginormous wind turbines in western Iowa. They werent there three years ago. They werent obtrusive at all..not like the way they ruined the landscape in Germany when I was there visiting in 2006. I guess there wasnt much to ruinthey just stuck them in cornfields.

I am really glad I didnt ride the Baggah out. The BMW (the Muddah?) has really got trashed. Some truck in front of me was spewing something that covered the front of the bike. Every bug stuck. There is so much construction that, combined with the winds, riding through construction zones sand blasted the bike. I felt like I was behind a 300 rear tire riding along the beach on A1A in Florida.

I skipped the largest truckstop on I-80. Too many cars..not so many trucks. I guess its a tourist attraction. Maybe Ill stop there on the flip-flop.

Most of the ride was carefree. Only one pucker moment. In a construction zone, a cage ignored the yield sign and entered the highway without the benefit of an acceleration lane or me moving out of the way. Thanks to my 58 year-old used-to-be lightning-quick reflexes, disaster was averted. I even had time to lay on the horn and shake my head in disbelief.

I was surprised that I saw very few cool cars all day. There was a new Porsche Turbo in red, albeit dulled by all the goo on the road and a Buick with a great set of rims. Other than that, nada.

My GPS tried to re-route me ever since I decided to skip Chicago and take I-80 back in Gary, IN. Like at every intersection! Now I think its mad at me for not following directions. When it says recalculating and make a legal U-turn, the womans voice speaks with such contempt that I know Im in trouble.

So, overall, a great day. I saw so many trailers, that I was glad that I was able to ride. Cant wait to get to Spearfish, meet up with Kory, and get on the Baggah.

One final thought: riding alone great distances sucks. The last time I rode out, Da Pope was with me.

Maybe next year, Streets and Da Pope can make the trip.

Andrea's Ride

Andrea was here a week or so ago to take her bike for it's maiden voyage and she did awesome. She grasped the idea of the jockey shift and foot clutch immediately. She took the bike home and practiced. She recently rode it back here so Kory can take it to Sturgis. So be sure to check her out riding around South Dakota!

A Day's Work.

We have been really busy, which is a really good thing! Below is a couple of projects that Big Ron, Dirti and Kory are working on. Most of our work is in the form of service but as you can see we have a few cool projects going on!
We also have our 1st Bike Night of the season this Wednesday and Laconia later in the week. Check out Kory at Broken Spoke Wed. June 17-20 and Dave at the Allstate booth at the Lobster Pot June 13-21.

Air Horns

Finally I get some good shop content!! We have been so busy there is no time for fun, which is a good thing. Last night we were all working late and Dirti told me to come down to fab shop with my camera! So I knew it would be good so I found a hidden position and started filming! Sorry that it is kind of dark and grainy... I really need a new camera!!

33 Hot Rod's Maiden Voyage

So I know I said I would post this sooner but I was really bogged down with stuff and couldn't figure out my video camera to be honest... But here it is.

The car has already left to be dialed in at Factory Five, then it will make it's way to California for the Power Tour. Hopefully it will be back before the end of the summer so we can have it here on display and attend a Bike Night!

Kory gave me a ride in it! Wow is it different. You are so enclosed in it and you can't even see the front end. It's wicked fast too! Absolutely a bad car.

Great job guys!! You should all be proud, I am!

PS- Don't mind the little part at the end. Dirti was trying to scare Jeff, It worked but I missed it! So much for being a camera man! Oh and the sides are missing from the front of the car...

Daytona 2009

We had a good Daytona this year. We debuted the Allstate Bike at their booth all week, Kory put his bike in Wild Turkey's booth at Dirty Harry's and despite the cold weather (ok so it was about 55 a few days and beats here but not FL weather) we did a lot of riding!

Dave, Kory, Matt, and myself were at Allstate's booth all week at the race track. I had to come home Monday because someone has to be here but the few days I was there were good. And Busy! I was really surprised to see that Daytona was busy early. Despite the economy I think that so many people are just sick of the cold and snow. I know I am!

I also got to meet 2 kids that Kory and Jeff are always talking about, Twinkie and Chad. Chad is a painter from Daytona. Twinkie is like Dirti's twin, he just comes up with the funnest things.

Chad just finished painting the owner of Lollipop's Lincoln. He picked Kory and I up a couple of times in it. What a bad car, especially when it dropped on the frame! Chad is an exceptional painter. Take a look at his work, http://www.cccustoms.biz/

Ruben Brown was there for a few days too. Kory hooked up a photo shoot for the cover of American Bagger. Kory, Matt, and I had fun with Ruben and Barrasso. Both of them are "good dudes"! There sure was a lot of laughs between us all.

Streets’ and Thug’s most excellent Daytona adventure…2009

It’s only a few days away….

Over the last year, our companies have experienced all that you’ve read about…bad news, more bad news, really bad new, major suckage bad news, totally suckage bad news, I-can’t-believe-it’s-happening bad news…you get the picture. One of the thoughts that have carried us through…it’s time to ride!

Streets and I have endured the last year…with our three sons deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan…so…a salute and prayer to them…and a ride with them in mind…

How is it that two wheels and wind takes most of life’s worries away? If I had to explain it, I couldn’t do it….

We’re heading out next Tuesday..with business stops in Richmond and Atlanta..where we’ll pick up new crew member Alan and his new Perewitz Road Glide. We should make Florida by Thursday night…giving us a short respite before Bike Week starts in Friday.

We’ll probably go to the vintage swap meet in Eustis on Friday…if it’s held this year. Last year, Dave picked up a really trick Indian scooter…the type without a motor.

We plan on hanging with the Perewitz and Wild Turkey crews on Main Street. We also plan on a ride around the 2 ½ mile Daytona International track. We’ll get pictures.

There is a good chance that one day, the Perewitz scooter will make an appearance. It tops out at 45 mph with my sorry butt in the saddle, but, at a 100 mpg, who’s complaining? I think my Perewitz flamed helmet adds 2-3 mpg!

The sad part is that Jody will stay back in Bridgewater, holding down the shop. We’ll send plenty of pics and narratives so she won’t feel alone. Also, we’ll miss Dave O, but will lift a drink to him.

V-TwinShow 2009

The Expo was a big surprise this year. So much talk about the shitty economy, and no one will be there and it's going to be so slow,blah, blah, blah... well that was far from the fact. The floor was busy with dealers running around taking care of business. Sure, there were a few less vendors, but none were missed to be honest. Everyone I talked to was very psyched about the weekend and business was happening all over the place. Dave was sporting some fresh paint with PPG and had a sweet little bike over at Paughco's booth. Scott from Leroy Thompson was showcasing some nice wheels and parts. I did run into Kory and his boyfriend Jeff on the floor, they were up to no good as usual!

some club called the "Hard Pole" oh well maybe next year Kory!

The city was busy after hours with everyone mixing and checking out the eatery's, Cinci does have some good food. It was a good weekend and hopefully an insight as to what's in store for the year ahead!

Wilmington KevMarv Show

Last weekend Kory, Matt (Kory's other brother) and I went to a show a KevMarv Show in Wilmington, MA. On Saturday the show was pretty busy. This was the first show I have done in 2009 so I was curious to see what the turn out would be. I was impressed. Wilmington is one of KevMarv smaller shows so I didn't know how many people there would be. The crowds were coming through the doors and people were actually buying things too! Of course it isn't like it was 2-3 years ago when we couldn't take money fast enough but to just have some good sales was awesome. Especially at a small show and a first for 2009.

Even better than the sales was chit chatting with people. The show was only about an hour from home so close enough that people could live near us. We let tons of people know that we don't just do custom bikes, we have a full service dept. and parts dept. Also we told people about our infamous Bike Nights! Ahhh I can't wait till summer!

So in the long run hopefully the sales for that show will continue to climb throuhgout the year, it doesn't just stop when the weekend is over!

Next weekend Jan. 24-25 we will be in Salem NH for another KevMarv Production! See ya there!
