Bike Week Safety

Daytona 2009

We had a good Daytona this year. We debuted the Allstate Bike at their booth all week, Kory put his bike in Wild Turkey's booth at Dirty Harry's and despite the cold weather (ok so it was about 55 a few days and beats here but not FL weather) we did a lot of riding!

Dave, Kory, Matt, and myself were at Allstate's booth all week at the race track. I had to come home Monday because someone has to be here but the few days I was there were good. And Busy! I was really surprised to see that Daytona was busy early. Despite the economy I think that so many people are just sick of the cold and snow. I know I am!

I also got to meet 2 kids that Kory and Jeff are always talking about, Twinkie and Chad. Chad is a painter from Daytona. Twinkie is like Dirti's twin, he just comes up with the funnest things.

Chad just finished painting the owner of Lollipop's Lincoln. He picked Kory and I up a couple of times in it. What a bad car, especially when it dropped on the frame! Chad is an exceptional painter. Take a look at his work, http://www.cccustoms.biz/

Ruben Brown was there for a few days too. Kory hooked up a photo shoot for the cover of American Bagger. Kory, Matt, and I had fun with Ruben and Barrasso. Both of them are "good dudes"! There sure was a lot of laughs between us all.

Check out the photo's below.

Allstate Teams Up with Dave Perewitz to Help Increase Motorcycle Awareness and Safety
Perewitz-designed bike worth $50,000 will be given away

NORTHBROOK, Ill. (March 16, 2009) -- Allstate announced it is partnering with Dave Perewitz, one of the top bike builders in the country and an icon in the motorcycle industry, for its 2009 Mobile Garage Tour. Perewitz will hit the kickstand and join Allstate at select motorcycle rallies throughout 2009 to talk bike with his fellow cyclists and discuss the best ways to help keep riders and their bikes protected.
In addition to the tour, Allstate will be giving away a $50,000 custom motorcycle built by Perewitz. Rally attendees will have the chance to check out and win a custom Perewitz-built bobber motorcycle designed specifically for the company’s 2009 tour. Participants can register for the “2009 Allstate Motorcycle Sweepstakes” at each tour stop, as well as online at http://www.allstatemobilegarage.com/. The sweepstakes will run through February 15, 2010.

“We’re thrilled that Dave Perewitz is joining us on the road to help rev up the conversation about motorcycle safety,” said Julie Parsons, vice president of Allstate’s consumer household unit. “And we’re excited to be able to give away this cool bike he’s designed.”

Perewitz has built an illustrious thirty-year career in riding, building and customizing motorcycles. In 2006, he was named the winner of the Discovery Channel’s Biker Build-off, and his company, Perewitz Cycle Fabrications, has built choppers for numerous celebrities, including Hulk Hogan and Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford.

Before select rallies throughout the country, Allstate will donate Motorcycle Safety Foundation training videos and materials to local drivers education classes and other organizations to help prevent all-too-common situations in motorcycling – accidents at intersections. With the influx of motorcycles in and around these communities, safe riding and driving is of paramount importance. Additionally, Allstate will distribute safety tip cards for both riders and motorists to help them share the road safely.

In addition to talking about safety, visitors to Allstate’s Mobile Garage will be treated to an interactive experience with custom motorcycle building demonstrations, virtual biker build offs, plus a variety of VIP comforts like massage chairs, misting stations and the chance to speak with Perewitz or on-site Allstate agent about recommended motorcycle insurance features and benefits.

Allstate Mobile Garage Tour events include:

· Daytona Beach Bike Week – Daytona Beach, FL
· Laughlin River Run – Laughlin, NV
· Laconia Bike Week – Laconia, NH
· Allstate 400 at the Brickyard – Indianapolis, IN
· Sturgis Bike Week – Sturgis, SD
· Lone Star – Galveston, TX

“Whether you’re on two wheels or four wheels, safety on the road should always be a top priority for anyone hitting the streets,” Perewitz said. “Working with Allstate, it’s cool to see that the company is really committed to rider protection. They understand what bikers need for protecting their ride, themselves and their families.”

Allstate motorcycle insurance offers one of the most competitive policies in the industry with many product features, including: first accident waiver, guest passenger coverage, customization coverage and towing coverage at no additional charge.

If eligible, motorcycle owners can save up to 40 percent off of their premiums with multiple policy discounts, transfer discounts, a good rider discount, and by belonging to their favorite motorcycle organization. Thug & Streets Most Excellent Adventures - Daytona 2009

Daytona at last! Thug and Streets welcomed Alan Pope as a participant in our Most Excellent Adventures. Alan, from now on known officially as "Da Pope", owns the bright purple custom that has graced the home page of the Perewitz website for the past week or so.

Friday - We're riding in shirtsleeves after a long cold winter. Finally!! First stop was the Allstate booth at the Speedway to see the Perewitz bobber on display. It must have been a hit, because we saw a lot of cameras pointed at it. We'll let Jody's post show you pictures of this slick little ride. We then headed for Dirty Harry's on Main Street to see what was happening. It was a little chilly for a wet t-shirt contest, but the participants were real troupers. A dry fleece sweatshirt contest would have been more appropriate for the conditions. For the ride home to Thug's place that night, we decided to let Da Pope lead us since he had a GPS on his bike. I guess GPS means Going Places SeldomSeen, because we definitely took the long way home...thru St Augustine I think....but it was a beautiful night for riding, we got a good giggle out of it, and nobody complained.

More to come, including Bloody Mary Monday and The Three Amigos on a scooter. Stay tuned.Streets

Boggy Creek Camp Charity

By: Susan Perewitz
Dave was asked by Bruce Rossmeyer of Daytona Harley Davidson to be a Grand Marshall for the 2008 Ride for Children. Dave and I flew to Daytona, stayed at Destination Daytona, attended the Champagne Ball on Friday night, and participated in the charity ride on Sunday.

Dave had a bike courtesy of Daytona HD. The bike was a new bagger with a two-up seat. Know what that means? I got to ride…woohoo!!! The weather was perfect…just the way I like it…HOT. This ride is a charity ride to benefit the Boggy Creek Camp for Children.

The camp is amazing and benefits children with all sorts of illnesses. Boggy Creek is associated with the Paul Newman Hole In The Wall Camps. Dave donated an air cleaner clock for the live auction. The high bid was $1,200.00 until a generous woman jumped up, bid $2,000.00 and wanted the shirt off Dave’s back.

Hey what the heck. It was for charity, for the kids. So Dave went shirtless for a few minutes. Then this same woman paid her two grand and went up to the $1200 bidder and gave the clock to him and he paid his bid. So the clock brought in $3,200.00 for the charity.

But wait. Bruce matches all the bids so Dave’s a/c clock brought in $6,400.00 for the Boggy Creek and those special campers. It was the highest item of the live auction. Dave and I were thrilled to be included in this worthy cause.

Dave was also honored to be a Grand Marshall plus he got to hang with good friends Eddie Trotta, Billy Lane, and Carrie Repp. Bruce Rossmeyer, Beverly Marshall, and their crew of dedicated volunteers go over the top when it comes to this charity. This year’s weekend of events netted the Camp $500,000.00. Looking forward to doing it again in 2009. For more info on Boggy Creek Camp go to http://www.boggycreek.org/. God Bless the Children.

A Satisfied Customer!

By: Don Simon
A little story about my quick visit to Daytona.

I trailered my bike to Daytona for one day last Thursday (I freely admit I'm to old to ride 3 1/2 hours each way in one day), to ride around, and visit with Dave and Doug, aka "Thug". I parked in a lot that had many other bikes and trailers. No sooner did I unload the bike when it was surrounded by 3 guys, admiring it, asking questions, and taking pictures. They loved the bike and could not believe it started as a Road King, which is interesting considering two of the bikes they were riding were new Road Kings. Anyhow, I spent the next couple of hours riding around, and without fail, at every stop light or traffic jam, I received comments from other bikers about the looks and sound of my bike.

Around 1 pm, I pulled into the parking lot behind Dirty Harry's on Main Street, where I was meeting Dave and Thug. Again, the bike was surrounded by a couple of guys and girls inspecting the bike (the pipes were a big hit). The reason I am writing this is, although it is common when I ride in South Florida for people to check out and comment on the bike, to be in Daytona surrounded by every conceivable bike, and to stand out amongst them, just proves once again how special a Perewitz Custom truly is.

I've known for several years now how awesome a Perewitz Cycle Fab bike looks and rides, but to have that many people, most of them bikers themselves, say how much they like the bike is a real tribute to you guys.

Thug & Streets Most Excellent Adventures - Daytona

By: Streets Robinson

Like all good things, Thug and Streets Most Excellent Adventure has come to an end. We had a blast!. I can't possibly relate all the good things that happened during Bike Week 'cause I'd clog the blog. But I have a few things I noticed in Daytona and a few random observations I'd like to share. In no special order they are:

1) Everyody knows Dave
2) Dave knows everybody
3) Most of the women who "flash" while riding down Main Street would do the world a favor by keeping their shirts on
4) To the 1% of the women who actually look pretty good while flashing....Thank You
5) If you don't believe that God created women, stand next to the Wild Turkey Girls for about 5 minutes. "HE" was in a good mood that day
6) Kory Souza is the happiest when he has his arm around Jody, Cheech, or a wrench
7) Fact! Lollipops makes 99% of their annual profit during Bike Week. Most of that 99% comes from Massachusetts. You can look it up
8) When it comes to motorcycle repairs, the Perewitz crew does the extremely difficult immediately. The impossible takes about 4 hours
9) Nobody beats Jeff Salim at the electronic punching bag machine. Guy's got a mean overhand right
10) The Garage Girls are doing some seriously important work. Support them

That's about it. Thanks to the Perewitz Posse for showing us a great time, introducing us to some awesome people, and leaving us with many stories to tell. See 'ya down the road.

Street's New Tranny!

By: Doug Robinson, AKA Thug

Streets’ blue bike had a POS tranny that was never quite right and was scheduled to be swapped out for a Baker after Daytona. It wound up being swapped out during Daytona.

You see, shifting from 2nd to 3rd rarely happened. It would shift from 2nd to neutral, then to 4th. Getting it in gear was quite an ordeal, too. At least in 5th or 6th, if and when you got there, it would be OK. Hearing Streets trying to shift sounded like a quartet of castanet players.

Well, the POS tranny must have felt bad about all those times 3rd gear went missing, so Friday afternoon it decided to try and set things right by finally going into 3rd and staying there-at least for the duration of Bike Week-but probably for all eternity. So Streets nursed the bike to Dirty Harry’s and told Dave and Kory about it.

Dave’s friend Domenic has a lift and the tools at his house and was kind enough to allow Kory to use it. He and Paulie helped with the wrenching, as well. Streets limped the blue bike to Domenic’s and things were set.

Dave contacted the folks at Baker (thanks Ryan) and they overnighted a new RSD 6 speed to the landlord of the house the Baker folks are staying at. The landlord got the tranny to the house. Streets and I went to the house and met Scott who gave us the box. We then had to get it to Kory so he could get started. By about 4:00 on Saturday, the new Baker was ready to be installed.

Later, Dave, Dave O, Jody, Sara, and I met at the house as Kory, Domenic, and Paulie were finishing up. At 8:00 that night, the blue bike was back in order. Streets took it out for a shakedown ride and returned with an uncharacteristic “yee-hah”. The Baker shifts like “buttah” and all is well with the world.

This was an example of customer service that would make Nordstrom envious. It wasn’t easy shouting into cell phones over the din of hundreds of free flowing v-twins, but everything worked out.

A great story thanks to all involved.

Daytona Day 1

The Perewitz crew is in Daytona!
Today was day one. Sara and I were at the speedway all day doing the XXChromes build with Jesse Combs. It was a nice day out, not to hot but definitely much better than snowy Bridgewater. We got some of the bike done for our build. It is a fearce competition! The girls against the boys from Chopper College. The winning bike is decided by your text vote. So text Chop2 to 90430! That will be a vote for the girls!
Tonight was a cool ride home on the bikes. I got to ride on the back with Kory on Thug's Roadglide. It was wicked nice. That bike rides so nice. I think I might buy one! Also in the pack was my dad on his 50 Pan, Barrasso, Dave O., and Thug. Unfortunately Streets bike broke down today but hopefully it will come alive tomorrow thanks to Kory.
Tomorrow we will be back at the speedway and Dave, Kory, and Jeff will be at Dirty Harry's. So come by and check us out if your here or at least text CHOP2 to 90430!
Talk to ya tomorrow!
